South Mole update - reopening to vehicles

Thank for your feedback regarding the issue of access to South Mole. Your input was a great help to Fremantle Ports in understanding how best we can keep South Mole accessible and safe for all users. That, of course, has been our goal from the outset, since issues arose with illegal camping on the mole last summer and autumn.

We can tell you now that South Mole will soon re-open to public vehicles, most likely in late August, though an exact date has not yet been set. First, we need to do some minor works there, which are important. They include:

Installing new signage that makes absolutely clear that camping on South Mole is prohibited and won’t be tolerated
Upgrading line and bay marking, including the introduction of new disabled parking bays
The introduction of parking ticket machines. Parking will remain free for the first three hours, just as it was before. However, users obtaining a ticket will allow us to more effectively police illegal camping. All drivers will be required to obtain a ticket; if they choose to stay beyond three hours, paid parking will apply. Most visitors to South Mole don’t stay longer than three hours.
Once again, thank you for your feedback to us. We are working as quickly as possible to re-open South Mole to vehicles and will publicise that as soon as it happens. In the meantime, it remains accessible to pedestrians and cyclists.
