Port Facilities

The two modern container terminals in the Fremantle Inner Harbour are operated by DP World (Berths CT1 and CT2) and Patrick (Berths CT3 and CT4). Both terminals are equipped with specialised handling equipment and service major container lines.

DP World:

North Quay provides 811 metres of common-user wharf at Berths 1-2 (above) and 11-12 (below).



These berths have a design depth alongside of 10.4 - 11.3 metres*, good road access and are fitted with water outlets and electricity. Berths 11 and 12 are heavy duty. They have substantial stacking areas and are suitable for the handling of general and break-bulk cargoes, including motor vehicles.

Victoria Quay has six common-user berths with a design depth of 10.2 metres*. Four berths are used for cargo handling and two for vessel lay-up. Berths E to H are used predominantly for Rollon/Rolloff (RoRo) Vessels as well as cruise ships. Berths C and D are available for limited lay-up. The Fremantle Passenger Terminal is located on Victoria Quay at F and G Berths.

Victoria Quay is the preferred berthing area for pure car carriers from Asia which handle two-thirds of the port’s motor vehicle imports. This provides those in the industry with consistency for planning. The storage area for motor vehicles on Victoria Quay is monitored by cameras and accessible only through a monitored security gate. Working with vehicle transport and distribution companies, Fremantle Ports also provides dedicated facilities for on-wharf vehicle processing. These dedicated areas at F and G Berths on Victoria Quay enable vehicle processors to fast-track dealer-allocated vehicles. The on-wharf facilities have the capacity to store around 800 vehicles and have added value by providing customers with the ability to process pre-allocated urgent retail vehicles for delivery direct to dealers. The on-wharf vehicle processing facilities reduce costs relating to car handling in Fremantle by minimising lead time and eliminating any unnecessary transport. The dedicated facilities enable on-vessel survey and plastic stripping and washing within the wharf area. Both vehicle processors have 4,400 square metre warehouses. Victoria Quay currently provides sufficient stacking area to handle single shipments of up to 4,800 vehicles. The dedicated facilities for vehicle handling represent another example of how Fremantle Ports is working with customers to enhance their business. The on-wharf processing arrangements enable more efficient use of wharf areas while providing the flexibility of longer term vehicle storage. Some motor vehicle imports are also handled at common-user berths 11 and 12 at North Quay.

The terminal is on F and G Berths on Victoria Quay and a short walk from the centre of Fremantle. It has spacious halls for servicing large numbers of embarking and disembarking passengers.

Kwinana Bulk Terminal (KBT) has one berth referred to as KBB2.   KBT is primarily a dry bulk import and export facility.   It also supports the export of  ~60,000 tonnes of LPG and associated products as liquid bulk.   

Cargo is transported between the jetty and shore side stockpiles by conveyor belt.  The shore side stockpiles can be in open stockyards or stored in a shore side warehouse.    

KBT is connected to the road and rail networks.  The rail track is standard gauge and narrow gauge, and is integrated into the export infrastructure with bottom dump facilities which are also connected to the conveyor, receival stacker and open stockyard. 

The berth has a ship loader and unloader.  The maximum grab discharge rate for the unloader is 900 tonnes per hour and the loading rate is between 2,000- 3,000 tonnes per hour.  

Kwinana Bulk Jetty consists of 2 common user berths referred to as KBB3 and KBB4.  These berths support vessels unloading dry and liquid bulk cargoes, as set out in figure #.

The berths can accommodate vessels of up to 245 metres.  Grabs and hoppers are available for hire for geared vessels.  From the hoppers, the cargo is either trucked off the berth or transported by conveyor to sheds located at the base of the jetty.

Fremantle Ports has one common user pipeline on the facility.  The other pipelines are owned by third parties for the import of caustic soda, anhydrous ammonium and a range of other liquid bulk cargoes.  With the closure of the BP refinery, the import of fuel is a growing trade for this facility.  Fuel terminal operators including Coogee Chemicals Pty Ltd and Puma Energy are investing significantly in their tanks' storage capacity to support fuel imports. 

Operated by the BP Refinery, this facility accommodates tankers loading and unloading bulk petroleum products.
