Friends of Cantonment Hill ‘count on’ support from Fremantle Ports

The ’Friends’ were one of the recipients of funding by Fremantle Ports in their most recent round of community investments, and already the money has been put to good use in the creation of “Counting on the Hill”, a picture and number book. 
 
Featuring the work of Josephine Clarke and Paula Amaral, the book was launched to an appreciative audience at the Fremantle/Walyalup Library on Thursday 23 November 2023.
 
Manager Government and Public Relations for Fremantle Ports, Neil Stanbury, said the organisation was delighted to support a project that was ‘so Fremantle’.   
 
“It’s a celebration of a cherished place that the community loves, with historic links to the port, that casts a loving eye on the flora and fauna so unique to our environment, and is respectful to Noongar culture and language, including references to the Dwerda Weelardinup and the dingo spirit guarding the river mouth,” he said. 
 
The 24-page hardcover illustrated book is now on sale, with proceeds supporting the good work that the Friends of Cantonment Hill do in preserving the Hill’s natural environment.  Copies can be purchased from Vivid Publishing, just in time for Christmas and makes an ideal gift. 
 
Community groups and not-for-profits are encouraged to submit applications for community investment by Fremantle Ports for projects in alignment with their program values of community enrichment, education, environmental leadership and arts and culture.
